Actually there all types of tempos/rhythms in Kompa.

So, it would be possible to find a down tempo/not so upbeat Kompa song and blend it with RnB if one had

That was well said Lala, in fact it all came from Africa anyway.

Blues, R&B, I even hear the Kompa beat and the Zouk which derives from Soukous music played in countries of the Congo in Africa.
