Event Details

The band Djakout Mizik first came together in 1993 when several
musicians decided to blend their talents to change the face of kompa
music. Although the band's lineup has since changed their musical
goal remains consistent, which is providing their lineup includes
twelve musicians that have been together since the release of the
third album eight years ago. Each member brings a distinct style that
has contributed to Djakout's musical success. The twelve members
include: Rolls Laine on drums, Herve Athenor who plays congas,
Phillippe Monfort on percussions, Louimane Absolu playing bass,
Reginald Bastien on keyboard guitar, Tony Jean Baptiste on guitar,
Edzer Charlemagne on keyboards, Auguste Duverger the lead singer,
Frantz Caries playing the horns, Jason Colby on trumpet, Belony Jean
Philippe, Michel Henry Jeannot as the sound engineers and finally
three extra players recently joined: Delices Mezifils on guitar and
Oran Etkin on saxophone and Guy Beauvil as sound engineer.

Djakout Mizik has released six albums to date, but began to receive
widespread attention upon the release of the third album, "Septieme
Ciel." This is when they began replicating the style of the already
popular System Band, and creating a format all their own. This new
format overpowered the distinguished System Band and gave birth to a
whole new sound of kompa and playing live music. The following three
albums "La Familia", "Mannigueta", and the most recent "Jistis"
steadily built upon their new performance approach, which brought them
a new fan base and took their style of kompa to its paramount.
Djakout's live performances has increased their fan base, popularity,
and brought them international attention. They have played in such
places as the Bahamas, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominican Republic,
French Guyana, Dominica, France, Canada, New York City, New Jersey,
Connecticut, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, and of course Haiti.
The band is looking forward to traveling even more as their
recognition continually increases in the music business.

The band, which is known for their stage showmanship has performed
alongside Wyclef Jean for the New Year's Eve Special which was
televised on MTV as well as Reggae Carifest which was a pay per view
event. They are certainly no strangers to mainstream media and the
global entertainment industry worldwide.

As the face of Haitian music has continually evolved, Djakout Mizik
credits their style of play to many of the great kompa musicians of
the old school. These include the previously mentioned System Band
and Coupe Cloue. The kompa style itself melds many elements of salsa,
samba, along with traditional congas and African drums so they can
attribute much of their tempo with the likes of Latin music. The lead
singer, Auguste Duverge is also heavily influenced by the works of Bob
Marley and displays this in his singing approach. The distinct tone
and bass in the voice of conga player Herve Athenor is unique amongst
other Haitian bands, and the style of drum play by Rolls Laine is
reminiscent of great American rock and roll artists. These factors
along with the unique grooves of Reginald Bastien and keyboardist
Edzer Charlemagne and the songwriting of the rest of the band make
them an amazing sight on stage.
This Monday March 9th, 2009, Djakout Mizik will be performing live for
the first time at Brasserie Creole's traditional "Bouillon Night."
Come enjoy oldies like Septeme Ciel, Moso Lanmou, Rev Mwen, Kompa US,
La Familia, and of course the new hits.

Definitely a night not to be missed...Come Early and Leave Happy
