HAITI CULTURAL EXCHANGE SEEKING ARTIST VOLUNTEERS

Home > Haitian events Forum > HAITI CULTURAL EXCHANGE SEEKING ARTIST VOLUNTEERS

Dear Friends,

In collaboration with Brooklyn For Barack, Haiti Cultural Exchange is holding a series of FREE art workshops every Saturday during the month of May for youth ages 3 - 18.

In the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Haiti in January, we would like to address the needs of Haitian and Haitian-American youth by providing a creative outlet to express their loss, help them heal, and engage in an exploration of Haitian culture.

Our goal is to offer arts activities that will help them cope with the feelings brought about by the earthquake, as well as activities that simply offer a respite and an opportunity to enjoy themselves.

We hope to encourage and support the creative expressions of Haitian and Haitian-American youths and in the process, teach effective coping strategies, foster supportive relationships, and help children understand and communicate their feelings.

We have many non-Haitian volunteers for the workshops but we are seeking Haitian/Caribbean artists and craftspeople to work together with other artisans!

Workshops are available for kids in the following areas:
Haitian Folktales and Songs
Writing and Spoken Word
Haitian Drumming
Video documentary
Photography
Music of Haiti
Haitian Folklore Dance
Painting
Puppet Theater
Book Making
and Haitian Craft Making: masks, flags, musical instruments, kites and more…

If you have experience in any of these areas and are able to volunteer one or more Saturday in May, or you know someone who may be available, please respond to this email: RACHEL at HAITICULTURALX.ORG!

Below is the artist questionnaire to be filled out for workshops to help us create our workshop schedule.

If you are able to volunteer, complete the form below and send it back to me as soon as possible, and no later than Monday, April 5th so we can start signing up kids!

Thank you!
