On Mother's Day, May 9th, The Storytelling Center of New York is proud to present a celebration of the unique culture of Haiti. In the living arts of Haiti lay seeds of renewal, transformation and hope. Internationally renowned performers will bring music, dance and stories to this family-friendly benefit to raise money for the mothers and children of Haiti.

Haitian performers include : storyteller-Lily Cerat; singer -Erol Josue; poet -Gina Ulysse; The KaNu Haitian Dance Theater, and drummers from La Troupe Makandal.

N.Y Storytellers include: Diane Wolkstein, Laura Simms, Sherri Eldin, Joy Kelly, Bobby Gonzalez, Bill Gordh, Tammy Hall, Linda Humes, and Julie Pasqual

The benefit will be in the beautiful Victor Borge Hall at Scandinavia House, 58 Park Avenue ( 38th Street.) Along with the concert, there will be a silent auction starting at 1:00 PM. Signed copies of Diane Wolkstein's classic collection, The Magic Orange Tree and Other Haitian Folk Tales have been donated by the publisher, Shocken Books. In addition, the Smorgas Chef Cafe in Scandinavia House will donate 10% of its proceeds that day to the fundraiser.
Come early for a special Mother's Day brunch!

Funds raised go directly to support ATD Fourth World, working with families in Haiti since 1981. They enable the most disadvantaged to access emergency aid including food and shelter and medical assistance and work with children in the CFEF camp in the Martissant district of Port au Prince. UN Special Representative to Haiti has asked them to be a partner in the UN program "Yon vwa pou pep la" (a voice for the people).

I am very interested in participating in your upcoming project May 9th. A group of 6 students (4 being haitian-american )and professor Jane Hale are participating in an Experiential Learning group as a part of a class at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. We call ourselves Famni Ki Li Ansam.

The mission of Fanmi Ki Li Ansamn is to develop and promote beautiful picture books for young children about Haiti and its culture for families to share at home. We particularly aim to increase the availability and recognition of such books in Haitian Creole.
