The Pennsylvania Haitian Student Association and the National Haitian Student Alliance present a star studded event with a Keynote Speech from the first Haitian Millionaire, Dumas Simeus, the avid support of Jimmy Jean-Louis, star of NBC's "Heroes”and John "Papa Jube" Altino, Vice President of SOB Music Inc. a premier music venue that is credited for the discovery of John Legend, Floetry and many others. The 10th Annual Conference will occur from March 2-4, 2007. The title of this year's conference is "The Haitian Renaissance: Where we come from, Where we are, Where we're going." Additional invited guests, include Florida based Haitian recording artist, Mecca aka Grimo, and internationally renown artist - Michel Martelly “Sweet Micky”, Harvard Conant Fellowship Awardee and Author - Patrick Sylvain, Former Florida Secretary of Health – Dr. M Rony Francois and Minister of Haitians Living Abroad – Minister Jean Geneus and many more.
The mission of this gathering is to engage approximately 1,000 students, in a dialogue that will promote community building and activism through intense development of health, financial, social and leadership skills. NHSA and PHSA also seek to cultivate young women of color into leaders by providing culturally appropriate role models and an array of interactive workshops. In addition to celebrity support and participation, this exciting three-day event will feature the first annual Haitian Idol, fifteen educational workshops, recreational activities to include ice skating and basketball tournaments. The event will also include an elegant all white banquet, a Cultural Expose, electrifying Haitian band and Patriotic Sunday.
