New York, November 11, 2004 – “ We placed a great deal of importance on the artist in society, because they lead the culture and fashion throughout the world, “ said Celebrity center International President Susan Watson.
Artist Relief Funds For Haiti (ARFH), a non-profit organization, was founded by the Haitian Entertainment industry and the media to help increase awareness on the plight of Haitians, promote Volunteerism within our community, raise funds, unite concerned citizens to benefit the social and humanitarian needs of Haiti.
In our society the artist, regardless of avenue he/she chooses to express their voices, seldom receive the proper recognition and respect for the gifts they have given to our society.
A.R.F.H. is an organization where an artist will be able to reach out to the pubic and Haiti. It is a place where the Haitian Entertainment Industry, artist, media, promoters, college organizations etc. will come together as one to make a change for Haiti. You are an integral part of this organizations; you form it and by you to make a real difference for the people of Haiti.
The day will come when U.N and other organizations will no longer need to choose a major celebrity who has no roots to our land, to serve as ambassador to make the world stand up, acknowledge, and help the people of Haiti. A Haitian celebrity will be able to choose a cause and bring it to our community and the world. A.R.F.H is the place to start.
Never again do we want to witness the kind of desperations seen in Govaives, Fond-Verettes, and Mopou in the past few months. We have no control over natural disasters, but we can work on preventions and help establish response systems when they occur. In order to do so, we will raise the funds, plan the projects, contract with established and reputable organizations and corporations, and monitor their progress.
Our country deserves better. We cannot let the good things we love about Haiti become a memory, that will ultimately pass into legend. Our ancestors did not fight for freedom form slavery, to see us become slaves to apathy and fear of trusting and relying on one another. We have to choose to accentuate the positive, and work to a better tomorrow. It and uphill battle but when you do conquer the mountain, the rewards are elating.
Some of the long-term projects we are working on are:
Providing portable water for communities throughout Haiti.
Building low-income housing units in the provinces to help resolve the problem of over populations in metropolitan areas.
Donating trees and grains to farmers to plant to help solve the ecological and economic problems.
Musical school, sports attractions and many more other program that will help rebuild tourism once again.
All who are interested in joining our mission is required to do so in writing, please us the information below to contact us, it is preferred to do so via mail, and we will contact you.
2004, the 200th year of our independence, has been a time of difficulty, which has united us to work memorable accomplishment. Thank you for helping during these terrible times, the challenge is to continue to do so when the glare of the media and the world fades on our plight. We have to ensure that the lessons learned by those of us scarred by the 20th century will not repeat for centuries beyond it, to ensure that Haiti we will help shape for our children will remain welcoming and nurturing for theirs.
Charles Dudley once said: “It is one of the beautiful compensations of this life that no one can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.” A good deed no matter how small never goes unearned.
